Mage classes fill a variety of different roles, but this guide focuses on Mages focused on damaging enemies. Take a look at the Control Mage guide for more tank/crowd control focused mage classes.

Common Skill Trees

Mage classes vary from above as there is significant variations in playstyle / purpose depending on the combination of skill trees you select. Mage classes with Songcraft are generally centered around the Songcraft passive "Zeal", while classes with Occultism or Witchcraft are more focused on crowd control than other mage variations.

Gearing

The following links are baseline sets and may not reflect your ideal gear set. Additionally, the grade of your gear doesn't need to match exactly. For example, you could have the whole set at celestial grade, prior to upgrading to divine.

Dual Wield, Obsidian Armor

Revenant usually will wield a shield in the offhand, while Song mages (Spellsong, Spellsinger) will often wield a 2H staff.
